The opening Saturday of football season has come and gone and with it one of the biggest upsets in college football history. And unfortunately, my team, the maize and blue was on the wrong side of history that day. The Michigan Wolverines were ranked #5 in the AP poll and were defeated by Appalachian Community College! Well, that is what it felt like. Actually, Appalachian State is the 2 time defending I-AA Champions. Even so, as I sat and watched the fall of my team, I was thinking, “They’re supposed to be contending for the National Championship this Year!” The Wolverines had great plans for this upcoming year; beat Wisconsin and their rival Ohio State, win the Big Ten and so on. But now they lost and are out of the top 25, and according to some, they might as well pack it up and forget about it; the season is now lost!

This brings me to my point; when we lose, what is our response going to be?

Michigan still has a whole season ahead of them, they can still win the Big Ten, (and they will!) and maybe, just maybe contend for a National Title (It’s a long shot, but let me dream).

So what if Michigan is 0-1, they have the whole season left. (What do you think their record will be this year? Will they beat WI or OSU this year?)

What is your record so far in life? What will (or did) you do when you have (or had) an unexpected loss on your record of life? I’m expecting MI to get up swinging and fight for victory in every battle this year. I expect them to attempt to reach the goals with which they started the season. They will look beyond the blemish on their record and become stronger and even more disciplined because of the defeat the suffered in Ann Arbor on Saturday September 1st.

Now let me ask, what will you choose to do with unexpected losses and humiliating defeats in your life?
