Where are the flying cars?

When I woke up on January 1, 2010, I looked out the window and besides a lot of snow saw NOTHING! This isn't what I envisioned 2010 looking like when I was a kid. Granted, it has been a loooong time since I was a kid, but still I thought that we would be living much differently. Don't get me wrong! I appreciate our modern conviences like microwave ovens, HDTV, iphones, the internet, and the remote control. But where are the robots who serve us dinner? Where are the flying cars? Where is the teleportation devices? What about holograms? How cool would video gaming be if we could walk into the scene like they did on Star Trek the Next Generation? Maybe George Jetson sold be a bill of goods.
There have been many changes in the way we do youth work in the past few years. When I became a youth pastor in 1982, it was a different world. It has been over two decades since I've heard a youth group sing Father Abraham or watched them play Chubby Bunnies. How long has it been since a youth pastor has taken his YOUTH CHOIR on a CHOIR TOUR? Today we are tweeting and facebooking. We have our e-mail and our MediaShout. Youth ministry has grown-up . . . perhaps we are in our adolescence as we enter yet another decade. The modern era of youth minsitry began in the 1940's and 50's. What will it look like in the 2010's?
I'd love to hear from you . . . what changes have you seen in youth ministry? Which changes do you think are good and which changes could we do without? What do you think youth minstry will look like when this decade changes to the 2020's? And . . . are we going to have flying cars?
